Anyone have access to a Washington Post today?

I had the opportunity to design the cover of their ‘Sunday Style’ section covering the upcoming Fall TV seasons. I didn’t have much direction to start out with, other than ‘make it feel like fall without being too cheesy’.

Fall is by far my favorite season. The chill in the air will always remind me of North Carolina and it’s beautifully colored trees. When prompted with the design for this cover, I immediately thought of the State Fair held in Raleigh every year. I’ve always loved the fair and have gone every year (aside from one or two) since I can remember. A ferris wheel felt like the most iconic way to visualize both my memories of the fair, and thus, the feeling of fall.

I had a lot of fun with this. Over the five days I worked on this project, it went through a lot of back and forth with the WP Art Director, Allie Ghaman, which resulted in a lot of edits.

Here’s a collection of screen shots that gives you an idea of how this project progressed.

If you find a Washington Post laying around, take a peek at the Sunday Style. I’d love to see a picture of it in the wild.
